The Barrens is a vicious post-apocalyptic wasteland where battles rage between Union Forces and a mutant Hoard army. It’s a dystopian world where you must choose between the safety and rules of living inside the wall, or the danger and chaos of the freedom outside.

Culler and his wife live inside. They gladly signed the Union loan papers, took the money and now can’t pay it off. The dollars are gone, the business a bust, and it’s time to pay back the debt with blood.

Looking down the barrel of his issued rifle, he wondered if soldiering meant more than a paycheck. Bullet by bullet, he dealt death like cards from an endless deck. His debt dropped in proportion to the bodies that fell.

Crouched down in the rocky hole, freezing his ass off during the miserable winter of the Barrens, he looked up at the calm grey sky for respite from the hellish smoke, frozen ground, and chaos around him. Men were everywhere, locked in the ultimate of competitions, war.

Cullers War is a monthly pulp fiction story of never giving up despite the odds. War is a crucible of fire that smelts men into legends, and the Phoenix is rising.

Adapt and overcome, persevere until victory… and keep an eye out for big brother.

Dollars for flesh. I gladly signed the papers, took the money and now I can’t pay it off. The dollars are gone, now it’s time to pay back my debt, bullet by bullet.

Looking down the barrel of my rifle, I wondered if the death I was dealing, like cards from an endless deck, had any honorable reason behind it.

Crouching in my rocky hole, freezing my ass off during the miserable winter cold of the Barrens, I looked up at the calm grey sky. I drifted in peace for a second, then reluctantly let my eyes fall back to the hellish smoke, frozen ground, and chaos surrounding me. Men were everywhere, locked in the ultimate of competitions… WAR.

Valley Of Fire Pt2

In This Weeks Episode #3 (Audio Download At End Of Text):
We spent the next 30 minutes or thereabouts shifting our position lower down into the ravine. I couldn’t figure out why it made any sense.

Sure as shit, behind a muddy and wet ridge, near the mouth of the ravine a few hundred yards away, the lead man of a Mute recce force was creeping inch by inch towards a small space between two rocks. Just like us, they wanted to get eyes on and report back to their HQ on our size and strength, as well as take out targets of opportunity.

Whatever the case, at some point one of them with an itchy finger looked down his scope at Herzog and figured he was a big enough fish to be worth the risk of taking a shot and never going home. That eager beaver on their side, squeezed the trigger….

Harrod and I stood looking at the entrance to the bunker. Peering through the door, we met the stare of the man who was going to be in charge of our pain parade.

He just sat there, elbows on the table, hands clasped in front of his face, studying us. Then waved us in. The mute soldier pushed us inside and immediately zeroed in on Harrod. Predators can smell fear. He looked at the papers on the table in front of him and then back to Harrod.

The interrogation was about to begin…

Valley Of Fire Pt1 – Cullers War Book Podcast Ch3

Valley of Fire Cullers War Book Chapter 3Welcome to “Battlefield Barrens” Episode #3 of the Cullers War series called Valley Of Fire (original title “Napalm Death”). I’m bringing you audiobooks for free every Saturday. Written and performed by author Raymond Burton, that’s me. Battlefield Barrens is suitable for ages 18 and up and contains graphic violence and offensive language.

In This Chapter #3 Of Cullers War “Napalm Death”…

Later that night, Culler had his first watch in the trench. He watched from the top of the wind swept hill. B-Company was busy down towards the end of the valley pulling their lines back to solidify a better position across the river bed. They were trying to move under the cover of darkness but there were enough moments of light leaks, that they looked like a fire worm slithering through the rocky contours.

He had never seen such a massive amount of wounded moved en masse. They were usually ferried away by chopper. It was a staggering amount of broken bodies to get back across that river, and they were having a tough go of it.

Sporadic tracer fire lit up the hills as the column of wounded worked it’s way back to a safer area across the river. The Mutes could smell the blood and kept nipping at their heels with harassing fire every chance they got. The Mutes knew the casualties were weakly defended and had no real firepower to speak of. It was only a matter of time before they were going to get slaughtered if Second Battalion didn’t do something to help them out and quick… (Download The Audio Below)

Todays music is a song called Gunpowder Chant from the album The Butcher’s Ballroom by the Diablo Swing Orchestra . You can download the full album free here so enjoy!

Diablo Swing Orchestra is a Swedish experimental metal band formed in 2003. They have released three albums: The Butcher’s Ballroom, Sing Along Songs for the Damned & Delirious, and Pandora’s Piñata.

The band mixes numerous influences from heavy metal, various metal subgenres including progressive and symphonic, classical music, and jazz. It was created as a sextet, but became an octet in 2011, following the addition of a trombonist and a trumpeter.

And just for shits and giggles, since this episode (was previously) titled NAPALM DEATH… I’ll throw in Napalm Deaths most popular song according to lastFM “Smash A Single Digit”

The Face Of Evil – Battlefield Barren Ch5

The Face Of Evil - Cullers War Chapter 5 Of Battlefield Barrens Book 1 – “The Face Of EvilFrom the Cullers War Series (Audiobook Version Download At End Of Text Article)

Culler stood staring at a map scratched into the ground with the other platoon leaders, listening to the intelligence update from the lieutenant. The enemy was pushing in two areas, not just at their valley. Intel said an additional force of Mutes was also holed up in a small town just north of the valley.

Again, different tactics for the Mutes who preferred to skirmish and disappear. Now the Mutes were committing everything they had in the Barrens, and solidifying their forces in a town that the Grand Union wanted for future expansion.

The Union decided doing a pinch to nip this offensive in the bud was the best move. With the Union main force dug in deep at the valley, another chunk of their force would swing out, moving in on Newton from the east, just north of the valley.

The good news for the men on the move was that they’d do it mounted in Badgers; the newest, comfiest armoured fighting vehicle added to the Union forces arsenal.

Shots rattled off the sides of the AFV. The driver jerked the yoke to get out of the incoming fire and into some low ground. It was game on time, once again.

“Move! Coming down!” Culler shouted and guys below tried to make some room for him to squeeze in. The speakers crackled to life as the crew commander shouted into the comms, “Hatches down gents!”

Culler slammed into the rear hatch before he could get fully down into the hole. The massive dual twelve cylinder engines folded him over the hatch at the waist. The crew commander looked back as Culler peeled himself off the top deck. The crew commander shouted at Culler to close the rear hatch again, while motioning for him to unpin the Union flag as well so it could swing up to full height. The bullets kept pinging off the vehicle like bugs off a windshield. Any hope for a peaceful surrender, sarcastically stated or not, went further down the shitter with each shot fired. The Union boys were in for a scrap…
